“How can a race that fights as poorly as
you be so prosperous?”
- Theobold Coinhammer
Theobold is a proud warrior with a good
heart. Hailing from the Coinhammer forge deep
within the Dragon Run Mountains, he now wanders
among the humans. Joints that grow more
stiff by the day warn Theobold that his days as a
warrior are numbered. Before he retires to the
comforts of home and forge, Theobold is committed
to sending as many enemies to the grave as
possible.

Theobold’s adversaries are many and varied.
Brigands who attack rich dwarven caravans, rock
trolls who lurk in the night, and most important of
all, ineptitude. Theobold simply cannot abide by
the feeble defense that many elves, halflings, and
humans mount in the face of danger. As selfappointed
advisor, the well-meaning dwarf travels
the land teaching people to defend themselves.
In Theobold’s mind, teaching the elves and
humans to fight better only benefits the dwarves.
Any monsters or bandits his students slay mean
fewer problems for his own descendants.
The well-meaning dwarf often appears in
small communities that are having trouble protecting
themselves. Asking for no compensation,
Theobold simply, “Does what needs to be done.”
Using his skills as a blacksmith, he will help to
construct arms and armor if his charges lack suitable
gear. Once his students are properly
equipped, he will hone their fighting skills and
improve their tactical sense. Theobold will then
help to repel any threat that is currently causing
problems. Once satisfied that he has left a community’s
warriors better off than when he arrived,
Theobold will move on to the next challenge.
During his years of service, Theobold has
learned much of the world. He admires the style
and grace of the elves, yet finds their food unable
to sate his hearty appetite. The halflings amuse
him to no end and he looks upon them as little
cousins. Theobold enjoys human company the
most because of their work ethic. The dwarf cares
little for gnomes, however, believing them to be
far too clever for their own good.
Players might encounter Theobold as he
helps a needy community repel a great threat. If
the players were to aid Theobold, they would
find in him a worthy ally. Also, low level characters
might be taken under Theobold’s wing while
he better prepares them for a life of service to
others.
